Foodie Friday: Sessions Public

Have you ever walked into a restaurant and spent more time looking around at all the wonderful decor, that you forget to open your menu and the waitress has to come back three times just to take your order? Well that was me at Sessions Public.

Just down the street from my work, a co-worker originally told me about their "fried green tomato burger" and that was that, it was absolutely necessary that we ventured over for a wonderful little dinner the other night.

This charming restaurant serves up some delectable farm-to-table comfort food with a calm, comfortable atmosphere (I loved the dim lighting). A great place for friends, families and first dates. Don't forget to write something on their chalkboard wall before leaving!

Fried green tomato burger with arugula, sriracha aioli and pickled red onions on the side... not to mention their delicious fries paired with a delicious garlic aioli dipping sauce!

Foodie Friday: Roasted Garlic (and owl-shaped toast!)

I grew up in a family that used a healthy amount of garlic in almost every meal. Nothing has changed and now as an adult I incorporate garlic whenever possible. It's super healthy for you and incredibly tasty. There is so much you can do with garlic and in my opinion, there is never too much!

What you will need:

Full heads of garlic
Extra virgin olive oil
Tin foil
Cookie sheet or muffin pan (optional)

Directions:

1. Preheat the oven to 400°.

2. Cut off 1/4 inch on top of the bulb, exposing the cloves.

3. Peel away the outermost layers of the garlic skin, leaving the skins of the individual cloves intact.

4. Place individual sheets of tin foil on cookie sheet or in muffin/cupcake pan per head of garlic.

5. Place garlic heads upright and drizzle olive oil over the garlic, making sure they are well coated.

6. Wrap them closed using the excess aluminum foil.

7. Bake for 30 minutes.

Use a fork or your fingers to pull or squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of their skins. Voila! You can eat as is, spread on warm bread, mix into your favorite dish or mash with a fork and use for cooking. The possibilities are endless!

Look at that clove!

Sleep Train

For someone who spends a majority of their life in bed (seriously, I'm ultra lazy when I'm not working) I am super excited about my most recent purchase.

The bed I sleep on now I bought 4 years ago, and although the floor model was super comfy, I got it home and hated it. Ikea refused to let me return the mattress since it was taken out of the plastic. How else are you supposed to sleep on it? So for an entire summer I slept in the living room of my apartment on my futon. UGH. That Christmas I got an amazing mattress topper and you couldn't get me out of my (new-ish) bed!

A few years down the road my bed was becoming uncomfortable again. Over the past few months I've bought and tried THREE different mattress toppers (memory foam, memory gel, feather) and this month I finally threw in the towel after countless and unbearable nights of sleep; it was time for a new mattress.

I popped into Sleep Train because my old roommate dragged me along to buy her mattress last year and they left an impression. The guy who helped me today was so nice and very helpful. Luckily there was a price match sale going on and since I did my research they price matched the bed I chose, took off an extra 5%, discounted a chunk of change for opting out of the box spring, threw in a fancy $60 plush latex hypoallergenic pillow I was asking about for $free.99, not to mention a 100 day comfort guarantee, all of this on top of FREE delivery. I'd highly recommend this place if you live in California!

Foodie Friday: Chipotle Potato Salad

My good friend Perry passed along this chipotle potato salad recipe a little ways back and it's taken me a while to get it all in order. Last week I went to the store to get all the fixins and I forgot... the potatoes! I finally got around to buying a bag and let me tell you, this was not only the best potato salad I had ever made, but in fact the best potato salad I had ever tasted!

You will need:

3/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup cilantro
1/4 cup scallions
1 minced chipotle pepper in adobo seasoning
1 tablespoon lime juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 pounds potatoes (red or sweet)

Directions:

1. Wash and chop potatoes (I used red potatoes).

2. Cook potatoes covered in boiling water for 10 minutes or until tender.

3. Drain potatoes and set aside to cool.

4. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients and toss with potatoes.

...and not bad to share with an artichoke.
