Departure

A small fancy dinner with my two favorite ladies at Departure was in order for my 25th Birthday. This pretty swanky sky-high lounge and restaurant is located on the rooftop of The Nines Hotel in downtown Portland with incredible views of the city. The theme is Asian fusion and what originally drew me to this place was the delectable vegan menu, but what made this experience even sweeter was walking up the hallway (and even their bathroom!) reminiscent of my favorite ride, Space Mountain.

crispy tofu // smoked chili glaze, sweet & sour pineapple

bbq tempeh steam buns // korean bbq sauce tempeh, spicy slaw

garlic fried rice // sunny egg, scallions

a whole mess of birthday soosh

maguro karai roll // big eye tuna, sweet & spicy sauce

big eye poke tuna // chili, avocado, white ponzzu, rice crisp

custom cake from sweetpea, thanks guys

DIY - frame for polaroids

After stumbling upon Meredith's DIY frame + 52 weeks of instax project I thought this would be an excellent idea for one of Jon's birthday gifts. I had a lot of fun making it, with the help of a friend, and very happy with the turnout!

What you will need:

wood frame, wire or some sort of string, frame hanging eyelets, mini or regular size clothespins, ruler or measuring tape, pencil and possibly a hammer.

I originally wanted to buy a frame, sand it a bit and paint it orange, but I came across this lovely, already rustic-esque blue frame that works well with the colors in our living room.

You'll want to measure and mark the distance between eyelets to match on each side so the string or wire will hang straight. This is where a hammer came in handy, lightly hammer the eyelet in where you marked until you can grasp it and twist them tightly in.

Now feed your string between eyelets, tying tight knots!

You can clip the string to not show or leave it long, whatever your preference. If you use wire, twist the wire to make sure it isn't poking out.

Lastly, hang the frame and clip all your photos on with clothespins.

Slacker + instagram photo dump

Sorry I've been slacking on posts lately. Between planning two vacations, working and spending too much time playing words with friends, I've been neglecting my poor blog. However, I have been reading all of yours and I'm getting back my inspiration.

Here are a few instagram photos and I'll be back soon!

Project 337

The past two weeks we've been Mac-less due to a crashed hard drive, so while we're fixing/retrieving/upgrading I've had to power up my old dusty laptop. Of course I started looking through old pictures and I came across Project 337, I got beyond excited to share it here with you...

In 2007, a Salt Lake City downtown building that was about to be demolished was turned over to the art community in Utah. Adam and Dessi price, owners of the building, started this project only knowing one local artist. Three months later, the art project was complete.

In the end, over 144 artists participated in the project (including a good friend of mine), with 42 rooms revamped. 7,500+ people toured through the building during the six days it was open. It was one of the most incredible things to see and something I will always remember. A few months after the bulding was torn down.

Photos are in collage form to save room.

All photos were taken by me.

My two absolute favorite pieces from the show...

Also, a little video featuring Adam Price and some of the artists.

happy birthday little brother

Happy 7th Birthday Kyle Riley!

The last seven years have gone by in the blink of an eye. How quickly time has passed watching this baby boy grow into a handsome young man. I was there for the birth of this incredible little guy and even though I'm no longer watching him grow day by day, I'm in awe with every telephone call and visit home.

Here's to many more years my little monster!

Meet Marty

Marty was born a little over a year ago, on my moms birthday oddly enough. We adopted her last April and I am 100% sure that she was meant for me. We have the same personalities, spoon every night and love all the same foods (yeah, my cat has FOUGHT with me over an artichoke and will eat a bag of hot cheetos if you leave them open).

You'd probably think I was crazy if you heard the conversations we have, but she's like my BFF, so I tell her everything. She understands me.

Jon captured this little video of Marty playing with her favorite hamper and toy. Enjoy!
